AMICI ITALIAN RESTAURANT
6.22.2011
okay, so it's the massive summer holidays and i'm back satisfying myself with my ongoing cafe hunts!

AMICI ITALIAN RESTAURANT

I visited this restaurant on a monday night but it was definitely not as quiet as you would imagine it to be from its not so visible location in Holland V.

First up, the award winning calamari rings ($13.90) were indeed nicely coated and deep fried with their batter and topped with a dash of chili powder that complemented the rings. They
were tender on the inside and the squid maintained its natural sweetness and you could literally taste its freshness. very satisfying.

The mains took a little bit longer to arrive. (about 25 minutes) My squid ink pasta ($26.90) was decent, but nowhere near fantastic for being a chef's recommendation. The three small pieces of fried cod fish was not 'crisp on the outside' like what other reviewers had described it to be. instead, it was soft and wet within minutes of just sitting on top of the pasta. The pasta was a little too soft for my liking (not done al dente), but the squid ink tasted good despite being a little too light and watery.

The crab meat aglio olio ($27.90) was acceptable. my friend liked the crab meat which i personally found a little too dry and tasteless, but i did enjoy the fragrant aglio olio - supposedly the pasta with the easiest ingredients, but one that requires a little more skill to perfect. again, the spaghetti was not done al dente, which made it a little bit hard for customers to finish the noodles that seem to get more 'soggy' with each bite.

I would rate this a 6/10, especially for the price you have to pay for a meal of decently average italian food. I probably would not return to this restaurant any time soon, especially when La Nonna is just next door. Pasta Inc also serves better quality food within this price range.
